I am experimenting with the abstract aspect of painting with a palette knife. I love it!
Does anyone have any techniques they would like to share?

At a very young age Vanessa was very interested in drawing and coloring. Growing up Vanessa had many struggles with the ideals of society. She used her art to express and release her frustrations with adults and society’s rules. She discovered that painting and drawing allowed her to say the controversial thing she felt without using words. Painting felt right and comforted Vanessa’s emotional intrigue with saturation, brushstrokes and texture.

While attending Long Beach State Vanessa found printmaking. Printmaking was about the process, unlike drawing and painting, which was about the image. She first tried silk-screening and loved it. She then went on to engulf herself in etching, lithography, photo-etchings, woodcutting and monotype printmaking. Vanessa was in love with the process of printmaking because it was so open to interpretation. Throughout her college years her parents and family were very supportive and encouraging of her artistic journey. Next, was her Senior Gallery Art Show. The show included over 30 works of proliferate art from Vanessa’s three years of printmaking background. She filled one small gallery with etchings, monotypes, woodcuts and silk-screens. There were even a couple pastels on canvas, larger pieces that had a lot of color and emotion. Vanessa graduated from Long Beach State in 2004 with her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Printmaking.

Directly after her graduation, Vanessa was scheduled to leave for Italy on a summer arts painting trip for three weeks. Twenty plus students flew to Florence, Italy to study Renaissance Art, as well as paint in a nearby university with nude models and very talented professors. Vanessa learned a couple very interesting painting techniques that she would never forget and has helped her proportional form in portraits.

Today Vanessa is still creating art and living near the beach. She has recently learned the art of wire wrapping jewelry and continues to paint in oil, acrylic and watercolor. She also draws and dabbles in web design and development.
