My work is about trying to make chaos and order work simultaneously. Through my process I continually set up circumstances where my control over the medium is relinquished. I chop up the collage in an arbitrary manner, I drip the ink, water and enamel onto the surface without attempting to control the effect, and when I paint over the ink I am not able to anticipate the result. By creating a certain amount of chaos in the initial steps of my process I am setting the stage for a composition that I would not be able to preconceive. The images created at this stage of the process are very fluid and free form and are not pleasing compositionally. There is too much happening on a microcosmic level for the brain to be able to make sense of all of this information in a way that does not make you dizzy or nauseas so it must be structured. I take these sections and reorganize them in a way that will be compositionally sound without sacrificing the incredible microcosmic activity on the surface of the material. The rest of the process is a series of reactions in relationship to the circumstances defined in this initial step.

It is my human instinct to create order out of abstract phenomenon. Through the history of mankind we have created structures and institutions to make sense of our reality. We have organized “Art” into a system based on technique, aesthetics and historical successes in order to categorize and catalog human endeavors directed at this phenomenon and to create boundaries for which evolution and innovation can be compared against. We have reached a state of critical theory in which we can make academic absolutely anything, and the impulse of contemporary art has been to exploit this fact and to glorify the most banal elements of the human experience. I believe that the role of the artist is to accentuate the beauty and divinity that mankind is capable of. Art is a way for man to create perfection and eternity on earth. I want my work to serve as a reminder of the ever present spiritual nature of the universe and to provide a place to gaze at the workings of an all pervading intelligence. In order to maintain a rational existence we must live and develop within the systems of civilization and we must also maintain a devoted curiosity in the ineffable.
