Artist Statement

I approach painting as a union of the internal workings of the artist and the action of the paint on canvas.
I begin each painting with a very strict formula. I feel a great necessity to provide a distinct set of standards
to my work, so my paintings are somewhat formulaic, and thus stable and ordered. Always evident is the
striving for normalcy and solidity in my work, as I am keenly aware of the lack of and need for the creation
of a foundation. This also lends a sense of constancy through all of my pieces, regardless of style or
experimentation. As I become more conscious of the need and desire for a social and cultural order my
