2003, Prismacolor black pencil on layered tissue paper coated with resin, over 120,000 one inch lines overlap in various stages to black-out the transparent surface, suspended from metal rods with interior back light, thirty 21 x 21 inch panels. Approximate installation size is 8 x 20 feet.
One inch lines in Prismacolor black pencil are drawn in a grid format on 18 x 24 inch pieces of tissue paper. These drawings are torn up and dropped onto a surface coated with Varathane. Based on standard measurement the density of overlapping one inch lines from each torn piece increases such as 1/8,1/4,1/2, etc. of a sheet. This process continues until one full sheet is represented continuing with the addition of one sheet per session until a density is achieved that darkens the surface. Numbers at the bottom of each panel are the approximate number of lines in that panel.
