Work: Rachel

this looks better in real life. it's only half done, this is a print off the key block, but I have to send one to a juried show by tomorrow so this will have to do.

I wussed out and redid the failed block design into a gouache illustration instead. I have about 14 hours left of painting, so I should finish it by Friday for sure, then send it off to my UK rep for possible publishing opportunity.

Not all is lost... I have a nifty idea for a print series.

In working with Yoshida's book, "Japanese Wood-block Printing", hit a HUGE snag after letting the cartoon dry on the block (using lino instead of cherry wood). When carving away, the paper does not stay adhered and pops. Sharpened all my knives, no better. I think I may have saved the design (thank you scanner technology) but the block is toast. I think I will take a break from experimenting with traditional technique and just do a regular ol' linocut and hand color the thing, or better yet, no block at all, just a gouache painting of the design, since it's for my UK rep's portfolio. Getting real tired of printing mistakes, lost 25 hours in the last month to them.
